Ron Wilson Fired As Sharks Head Coach

Yup, you heard me correctly.

This comes as no surprise (to your boisterous humble narrarator), as the ultimate goal of winning a Stanley Cup (or even making an appearance for that matter) was not achieved. It seems as if Wilson's voice was falling on deaf ears in the locker room, and although he posted an excellent record in his tenure with the Sharks, it was time for a change as we touched upon earlier.

I wish Ron Wilson well in his future endeavors, and would be shocked if he is not behind the bench for another squad in 2008-2009.

[Mr. Plank Edit] Eric McErlain has a solid article over at NHL Fanhouse on the matter. Also, Sharks Hockey Analysis takes a look at who the next coach would be. I think they raise a very interesting point, as it directly conflicts with what we have experienced during Ron Wilson's tenure.

Anyone else think Toronto is going to pick him up? They just fired their coach... and even though his dad was a Red Wing, Ronnie grew up a Maple Leafs fan. Just a thought... wonder what Vesa will think of that!

i liked ron wilson alot but im also interested in who we are going to hire. ive seen some say possibly joe quenville from the avs but who knows. im trying to think of whos been fired lately and would be good for the sharks, not much comes to mind.

i wouldnt be surprised if we sign someone we havent heard of (from the ahl etc). i think some fresh ideas could work wonders for this team- look at brucey boy in washington.

looking back on wilson's stint here, its hard not to like the guy. he did a lot of great things while manning the bench, but failed to deliver what our ultimate goal has been for the last three years- a Stanley Cup. its funny to think that now its all on the players to perform.

what do we need to do this offseason? resign jr and clowe. period. you see what kind of force holmstrom has been this postseason, and seems to be every single damn one. he gets the goalies off their game. i think clowe could definitely develop into that kind of player.

its going to be interesting. and exciting as hell.

Go Sharks.

Given the performance Clowe had in the playoffs, i definitely think he'll get a good offer to be resigned. As for jr, dougie said if he wants to come back its up to him, so I think he will also be back.

dude a detroit-pittsburgh final would be (im just saying that as a formality, it will happen) an absolute treat to watch. im actually fairly excited to see those two teams go toe to toe. on the plus side, theres no emotional roller coaster either! thats gotta count for something.

haha agreed, the ability to just sit back and watch will be very relaxing. Most of the time during an intense sharks game, i dont usually see what happens until i rewind and watch again with out the stress and emotion ie. joe pavelski's ot goal in game 5 which i had to watch 5 ties to see just how brilliant it was.
