I know I'm not the only one anticipating the release of NHL 09- with the inclusion of the ability to train your own superstar, and the promise of a deeper franchise mode, EA's newest addition to the series has the potential to build upon a title that won 7 Sport Game of The Year awards last year.
It's safe to say I'm going to be needing a three months supply of "Oops I Crapped My Pants" to last me until September. That game is going to be unreal.
But Dion Phaneuf? Seriously? I'd rather be force fed week old baby diapers than have to look at his ugly mug everytime I fire up the system. The man is a menace to society. First he goes off and nabs Elisha Cuthbert (check out those boobies, I'm not talking about Cuthbert's), then he goes on to grace the cover of one my favorite videogame franchises of all time. I honestly bought my XBOX 360 solely for the NHL series. I own one other game, which I've probably spent a grand total of six and a half hours playing (Assassin's Creed). I'm contemplating either writing the Governator (who unfortunately may empathize with the man boob situation) or just take a sharpie and scribble some illegible voodoo curses all over Phaneuf's smug face when I pick up the game three long months from now.
Either way, I'm shipping one of these bad boys up to Calgary. Like right now.

OMG i cant wait for nhl 09.. it gets better every year!! i dont really like baseball but mlb 08 the show had that sick career mode and i loved it. this is exactly the same thing for nhl.. Alfred Au is gonna be the next best thing in nhl 09 going pro and playing next to thornton hahaha (pretty sure we get to name our own guy in career mode).
My main beef with 08 was the franchise mode- the Superstar mode is going to be a lot of fun, but I'm a big fan of building a Cup winner out of some Goodwill guys I picked up. As long as they include rivalry games and a better offseason mode (players automatically resigning with you = biggest mistake since canceling Arrested Development on FOX).
Also: FANTASY DRAFT IS A MUST. With those three tweaks, along with general gameplay improvements, it's safe to say September may be the greatest month of my life.
