2008-2009 Season Schedule Released

Today the NHL released their schedule around the league. Some changes from last year:

* Sharks will only play each team in the Pacific six times (as opposed to eight last season)
* Four games (two home two away) will be played against every other team in the West
* One game against every team in the East except
* A home and away with three teams in the East- the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Here is the Sharks schedule.

All in all, I like this schedule a lot better than last year, and think it's probably the best format possible. We get to see our own division less (eight games was way too much), have a good balance against the West, and get to see every team in the league at least once. Anyone else have an opinion?

Go Sharks.

Agreed.

The only thing I don't like is no game in Atlanta. That's been my one time to see the Sharks in person without a major road trip. Looks like I'll be flying to Tampa in October this year.

The more I look at this year's schedule, the more I like it. It's basically perfect (except for the aforementioned lack of Sharks games in Atlanta). I'll get on the phone with Doug and see if we can set up a preseason swing through Thrasher-land.

Ring-ring

Doug Wilson: Hey, Jason stop calling buddy. That restraining order is in effect tomorrow just so you're aware.
Mr. Plank: Oh Doug, you know I'm no good at court ordered goodbyes.

Click.

Looks like you'll have to wait a year Dave. I'm pretty sure the home games against the East "flip" next season.

You're the man. I appreciate the attempt.

Last year was a "no Atlanta" year and I was looking forward to having one this year. But, in light of the fact that the schedule is so damned nice anyway, I'll live with a short flight to Tampa.

My girlfriend is in California so often, I'm sure she'll get to see a few games. In fact, she left Oakland this morning and I'm on my way to the airport at this moment to pick her up.

it's awesome to see that the longest road trip is only 5 games! I know they came out pretty well on those two long ones over the last couple of years, but it still has to take it out of you to play 8 consecutive road games!

Also, it seems like the sharks have been on a signing frenzy! Just still need to land that one guy!!!

Nice to see that the Annual SAP Open Road Trip will only be five games long this season. The one thing that struck me as kind of odd is the Philadelphia home-and-home (of sorts, seeing as how the games are four days apart).

I am a big fan of this new format. Less concentration on the division, more variety, etc. I also love that they have the game in Buffalo on my b-day, since I grew up in upstate NY as a Sabres/Amerks fan, and now am die-hard Sharks. Good thing the Sabres aren't coming here again this year. That game last year was just embarassing - they had more fans at HP than we did.

Yeah that struck me as odd too, but it sort of makes sense considering there is a lengthy enough break for travel time and we hit an East coast swing directly afterwards.

Can't wait for this season to get rolling.

I also like how they don't seem to be playing the next night at home after as many road trips. It seemed like that happened too often last year.

There is one particularly weird stretch at the end of the year where they make a 3 game trip to the midwest, come home for one game and then, back to Canada for 3 more.
