Sharks Gameday: Going Back To Philly

San Jose (5-1-0) @ Philadelphia (0-3-2)

We're going back to Philly.

The Philly cheesesteak was invented by Pat and Harry Olivieri in the 1930's, and serves primarily as a comfort food for the local denizens. This may have just a little to do with 62.7% of Pennsylvania being obese or overweight in the year 2007. If you ever find yourself at Pat's King of Steaks, uttering the marginally decipherable sentence "I'd like a pepper provo wit" would get you a sandwich consisting of steak, peppers, provolone and grilled onions. The term "wit" or "wittout" signifies whether you would enjoy a heap of grilled onions slopped on the sandwich (which I assume comes with a serving of cardiac arrest on the side).

Public concern over Kerry's health swung the 2004 election into Bush's favor

Much ado has been made over the Philly Cheesesteak, as a song extolling the values of the tasty treat has gained popularity over recent years. But it's popularity does not come without a price. Some have compared it to the broodwich, others have linked it to the current explosion of the blogosphere. Much like Sean Avery, the controversy surrounding the sandwich will continue until the LHC sucks us all into a black hole*.

*Calm the fuck down, we're going to be okay.

Prediction: If you questioned the Sharks heart before this road trip, you might have been on the right track.

Go Sharks.

Several local restaurants serve fairly authentic Philly cheesesteaks. Check out Steven's, Amato's, Jersey's, and Calvin's.

I've been to Amato's- extremely delicious. Thanks for the heads up on the others.

Tonight? Terrible game. So many turnovers, especially from Patty. His two goals and two assists cover the fact he played a poor defensive game.

It seems like Satubitz, Roenick, and Clowe are the only ones making consistently smart hockey plays. Milan has looked good the last two games though.

Whatevs. Two more points.

Am I the only one who enjoyed that game? Sure, it had a lot of problems, but it was a crazy, wacky, wild ride and I had a good time watching it.
