This whole McLellan vs. Babcock match up is getting all the media attention today, but it seems sort of blown out of proportion, no? As Mike Chen points out, the guys are professionals. There's no Bill Belichick/New York Jets esque feud, no tampering, no receiving of illegal gifts a la Ted Stevens.
Detroit is the best damn franchise in the NHL. Tonight should be an exciting game, and give us a true indication of where the Sharks stand through the first month of October. And although it's early, the winner tonight takes the Conference lead. That being said, a win or a loss isn't the biggest concern on my mind- as long as the Sharks prove they can hang with the Red Machine, I'll be able to sleep okay.
Won't be watching the game tonight due to a previous commitment, so I'll be a little behind the ball until tomorrow afternoon.
Prediction: Sharks win 3-2. Goals by Blake (on the powerplay), Grier, and Michalek.
Go Sharks.

Come on now!! Have some faith!! That sounds like someone who's happy to lose! I will not be happy to lose because I know we have it in us to crush Detroit each and every time we play them - so long as we do things right.
P.S. You predict Grier to have back-to-back games with a goal?? Man, god bless, but let's get real! ;-)
skr213: I see where you are coming from, and I'm definitely not content with losing (especially to Detroit). I'm just taking into account last season's habit of shitting the bed when it came to the Red Wings. Consider:
* 1-3 record
* Outscored 17-9
Note: I think our only win came with Lidstrom out, as well as most of their blueline- I could be wrong though.
It's not that I don't have faith- I just want to see that the Sharks play Detroit as well as we play against the rest of the league. Basically I'm looking for positive signs- a win would most certainly do that for me.
And Grier? Yeah, that might be a little stretch :)
The Sharks are looking pretty good this year. Although I've been without Center Ice for a few days now ... not really liking this edition of "How the other half lives."
Hey a win - and a dominating one at that. Things are looking up.
I'd call 8-2 a great start to the season.
